Are You Ready For Self They'd probably respond "Yes," and then "None of your business." And yet, we must know: Will the power laces on the new Nikes actually work? Nike designer Tinker Hatfield says that the fictional shoes made famous in the nike soccer shoes for sale movie Back to the Future Part II will be a reality this year. Because this year 2015 was the future that Fox's character Marty McFly visited and where he acquired said high tops. "Power laces. Alright," was all McFly said at the time, when he simply pushed a button on the outside of the shoe and they tightened up instantly. They also lit up, but there's no word on whether the new Nikes will contain a light source. At a recent lifestyle fashion trade show in Long Beach, Hatfield confirmed the shoes would indeed have power laces. But don't expect them to be sold at Zappos just yet.

Hatfield reminded the audience that "there are still eleven and two thirds months left in 2015." He'd better get to work, then. Unless these "power" laces will just use the same kind of technology that the Reebok Pump introduced in 1989. Hey wait. Wasn't that the same year as the Back to the Future Part II movie? Those Pumps were the shit. They had that internal inflation system that tightened the shoe around your foot until it fit like a glove, with just a few pumps of the button in the tongue. And you didn't have to time travel to Hill Valley, California to get them. Ross Dawson, founder of the think tank Future Exploration Network who's done a pretty Nike Mercurial Victory V IC good job at predicting the future (he foresaw online social networks in his 2002 book Living Networks) told Newsweek recently that self lacing shoes "seems like a good idea. But how are you going to pay for self lacing shoes if it's an extraordinarily advanced technology when it's not that hard to lace yourself?" And he's right. It's a valid question. Although, sometimes we buy things that don't solve a problem per se. They are just cool as hell. "Is it really worth developing self lacing shoes," Dawson said, "as opposed to other things that could be more practical in our lives?" And speaking of, Back to the Future II didn't just predict self lacing shoes. It also promised us flying cars and hoverboards.
